This video assumes no knowledge on the part of the viewer and would therefore be great for a beginner of Tomiki Aikido. It begins by introducing the dojo (practice hall) and explains dojo etiquette and it also gives a brief history of Aikido and its founder Morihei Uyeshiba (1883-1969). The video then goes through the warm-up exercises and basics like Shikko (Knee Walking), breakfalling, Unsoku (Foot Movements). Next it shows the 17 basic techniques that make up the Randori No Kata of the Tomiki system and also some counters-techniques. The Kata is not shown in enough detail to learn from without instruction, although it would be good as a supplement to your training.

This film Dr Lee Ah Loi demonstrates Koryu Dai San, comprising of 50 techniques. For reference purposes the Kata has been sectioned but the practioner should keep the flow going between the sections. It is a particularly dynamic kata and must be practised with conviction if it is not to lose its dynamism. Since the Kata includes the use of weapons - wood knife, sword and stick, the basic mastery of such weapons must also be practised.
